French fintech company Hyperline has successfully raised $10 million in a recent funding round aimed at enhancing its innovative billing platform tailored for businesses managing recurring subscriptions and usage-based billing. Having initially secured €4 million from Index Ventures in 2023, the investor is now reaffirming its commitment by further investing in the company’s growth.

"With billing, what’s time-consuming is really the day-to-day operations. Every day, when you have more than 200 or 300 customers, someone has to go and check that everything is correct," said Lucas Bédout, founder and CEO of Hyperline, highlighting the complexities of managing billing as a company scales.

As organizations expand, the challenges inherent in billing can mount significantly. Mispricing, overlooked items on invoices, and issues with automatic payment processes can occur frequently. Recognizing these pain points, Bédout remarked, “At the beginning, we said to ourselves, we’ll look at the current tools like Chargebee, and we’ll do a little better than them. Except that 20% better is nice, but everything has changed so much that now it’s just different.” He indicated that today’s businesses are increasingly favoring automation to avoid the burdens of manual invoice processing and reminders.

The platform goes beyond simple subscription management functionalities. Hyperline allows clients to dynamically set custom pricing and incorporate usage-based billing components. Notably, while Hyperline does not process payments directly, it serves as an orchestrator of the payment process, simplifying interactions with various payment providers.

"We manage the entire value chain except payments ... However, we do something that’s pretty cool about payments. Our customers don’t use payment processors directly," Bédout explained, emphasizing Hyperline's unique positioning in the evolving payment landscape.

Hyperline's user-friendly interface facilitates seamless interactions with different payment processors, whether Stripe, GoCardless, or Airwallex. This flexibility enables businesses to utilize various payment options tailored to their geographical needs. Customers can integrate Hyperline with their CRM systems for direct quote creation and with accounting software to streamline invoicing and payment reconciliation.

Currently, Hyperline employs 14 individuals but aims to expand its workforce to 25 in the near future. Its client roster includes companies such as Lokki, Malou, ScorePlay, Gladia, and Formance. "The majority of our customers today generate between €3 and €10 million in revenue," Bédout shared, indicating the startup's focus on supporting mid-sized businesses as they grow.

With a strong backing from Index Ventures and a commitment to automating and simplifying the billing process, Hyperline is positioned to make a significant impact in the fintech landscape. As businesses increasingly seek to streamline their operations, solutions like Hyperline’s could play a pivotal role in their scaling strategies. Heading into the future, as the demand for automation continues to rise, Hyperline’s innovations could redefine how businesses manage their billing processes.
